Mark Siderits (Illinois State University)
With responses from Carol Rovane (Columbia University)
"Buddhism & Free-Will:
Buddhist Paleo-Compatibilism"
Professor Mark Siderits received his Ph. D in Philosophy from Yale University. He has long been a student of Buddhist and classical Indian philosophy, and he is currently a member of the Philosophy Department at Illinois State University.
In 2003 he published Personal Identity and Buddhist Philosophy—a seminal work that is at once a great contribution to both the fields of Philosophy and Buddhist Studies. His next book, Buddhism as Philosophy is forthcoming and will be published by Ashgate and Hackett.
Responding to Professor Siderits is Columbia's own Carol Rovane, who is presently the chair of the Philosophy Department. Her work also focuses on personal identity, as well as the topics: 'the first person,' relativism, the foundations of value, and group vs. individual responsibility. Her forthcoming book For and Against Relativism is being published by Columbia University Press.
